Empathy trumps tolerance

The original quote is Helen Keller's "The highest result of education is tolerance." Her message graced our school's electronic display.

I don't much like the word "tolerance," and said as much to our Principal.

I live in a state with a real empathy deficit. The main reason our governor vetoed a bigoted law was that it upset the business community. It had nothing to do with the fact that it harmed people.
